Mr. Riley Maxey
Golf Course Superintendent, Oak Hills Country Club
Membership:

Riley Maxey, golf course superintendent at Oak Hills Country Club, began his career in agronomy at the early age of 10 at a small country club behind his boyhood home. He moved to College Station in 2005, and continued working in his chosen field at the campus course and at Traditions Golf Club while he pursued his agronomy degree at Texas A&M. After graduating, he held his first full-time position at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, SC, but moved back to Texas within a year to be employed by Miramont Country Club in Bryan from 2008-2014. In January 2015, he began working at Bluejack National in Montgomery, Texas, and that is where he received his first thorough exposure to zoysiagrass and the construction/grow-in process. Maxey and his family moved to San Antonio in August 2016 to become golf course superintendent at Oak Hills Country Club, which has undergone a complete restoration including the re-building of greens, tees and bunkers as well as re-grassing of fairways and roughs. Oak Hills is a 1922 A.W. Tillinghast designed golf course that is currently being restored by Tripp Davis. Maxey is a Class A member of GCSAA.
