Erik Ervin, Ph.D. is the Chair, Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, Professor, Turfgrass & Horticulture, University of Delaware. He earned his B.S. from Iowa State University and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Colorado State University. Ervin’s research focuses on turfgrass adaptations to stresses such as heat, cold and drought, as well as cultural practices to manage stress, including biostimulants and PGRs. His university appointment includes 40% teaching and 60% research. Ervin’s excellence in the turf industry has been well-documented through the awards he has received, including the Virginia Turfgrass Council Award for service to the industry. Ervin’s service to the turfgrass industry includes being the academic advisor for the Virginia Turfgrass Foundation and as 2013 chairman for Division C-5 of the Crop Science Society of America. In addition to participation in numerous state and regional turf conferences across the United States, Ervin has also lectured on various turfgrass subjects in China and Colombia. He has been a GCSAA faculty member since 2009 and enjoys golfing in his free time.
