Joseph Young, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the department of plant and soil sciences at Texas Tech University. He earned both his bachelors and master’s degrees at Mississippi State University. Young studied turfgrass pathology for his master’s at Mississippi State, evaluating fungicide resistance from anthracnose on bentgrass putting greens to azoxystrobin and thiophanate-methyl. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Arkansas, studying the physiological effects of low mowing heights, rolling and foot traffic on creeping bentgrass putting greens. Young’s current research consists of carbon sequestration potential for bermudagrass fairways, PGR evaluations on creeping bentgrass putting greens, evaluating grass species for water needs in West Texas, and determining the effect of poor water quality on bermudagrass fairways.
