Gary Ingram CGCS, a 39-year GCSAA member, has worked in the golf industry in Northern California for over 45 years in construction, grow-ins and sales, and as a golf course superintendent. He grew in Metropolitan Golf Links, a CourseCo property, in Oakland, Calif., and has been Director of Agronomy there for over 14 years. He was the overall winner of the prestigious 2014 Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards, presented jointly by GCSAA and Golf Digest. Ingram is the past President of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Northern California, the President of the California GCSA, a GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador. and chairman of the California BMP Committee He manages the non-profit Oakland Turfgrass Education Initiative, based at Metropolitan Golf Links, that teaches environmental science to inner-city Oakland high school students and introduces them to the game of golf through free study tours on the golf course. In addition, he has mentored nearly 50 high school student interns, some of whom have gone on to golf course and related careers.
